I obtained this jersey along with about a dozen more NBA game issued and game worn jerseys in 1999. I had a friend who was a rep with Nike back then who from time to time hooked me up with everything I have or had. Some of the jerseys were game worn some was just game issued.. So this jersey might very well be one that was game worn,, but I have no proof or authentication. Jersey is made by Nike Athletic, who had licensing rights to the Lakers starting in 1998. Jersey is a lightweight gold mesh jersey, 100% nylon material. Across the chest in purple outlined with white tackle twill is Lakers, tackle twill is stitched on. Under the Lakers word mark is the number 8 in purple tackle twill shadowed by white tackle twill tackle twill is stitched on. On the back of the jersey, is BRYANT arched across the top, in purple and white tackle twill stitched on. Just below BRYANT is #8 in purple shadowed by white tackle twill, stitched on. Around the collar and each arm opening is 1 inch white/purple/white elastic trim. On the left chest shoulder area is the traditional NBA logo stitched directly into the material in red, white, and blue. On the lower left front of the jersey is the Nike Authentic jock or locker tag, with team tagging attached to the bottom. This is a 100% game issued / team issued jersey. Team issued jerseys are made with thiner lightweight mesh material, thicker stitching, and better made all around. This is a jersey that was made for Kobe Bryant, for use by Kobe Bryant. There are several ways to tell that this is a game issued / team issued jersey. The jersey has a Lenght +4 tag attached to the jock tag, which is the tag used for Nike Athletic game issue jerseys. This tag is only put on to game or team issued jerseys. This tag is only put onto a game or team issued jerseys. A size 46, a size 46 is a team issued size. If you find one of these jerseys on a licensed NBA licensed merchandise site, or any NBA retail shop, the only sizes available are 40, 44, 48, 52, , 56, and 60. Where team issued jerseys are available is size increments of 2 so the sizes available are 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, and so on. This is also the same with the MLB. Team issued jerseys didn’t have a tag in the collar. The size information was located either on the jock tag or on a care tag attached to the inside left inseam. The retail version of the Nike jerseys have a collar tag which has the size as well as the care instructions. The material and stitching is better quality than that of a retail version of the jersey, The gold mesh material is actually thinner and more light. This was to allow for jersey to be a little lighter for the players. The stitching that holds the jersey together and the stitching used to attach tackle twill is more precise, more closer together, and the thread is a little thicker and heavier duty. I work another job and this is only to make a little extra that I don’t with my job.
