Circa 1980-81 Michigan State Spartans Game Worn Issued Jersey, QB Rick Kolb
For your consideration is a beautiful, classic game worn/issued Michigan State Spartans jersey, circa 1980-81. Manufactured by Sand Knit, it features the appropriate tagging in the tail to include both the early 1980s Sand Knit tag and VanDervoort’s distributors tag. The jersey is problem-free, showing little to no wear. The jersey was issued to quarterback Rick Kolb, early in his career before giving the number “2” to punter Ralf Mojsiejenko (Kolb switched to the number “15”). Kolb never had the chance to be a starting quarterback for the Spartans, playing behind the like of John Leister and Bryan Clark. He finished his Spartans career with 20 completions for 186 yards, and two touchdowns. As would be expected, this jersey doesn’t reflect much wear… Actually, it appears to me that it may never have been worn. All letters, numbers and stripes have been screened onto the shirt and are crack-free. The “KOLB” name has been screened directly onto the jersey, which is consistent with what the players were wearing at the time (see last photo). Tagged as a size Large, the shirt measures approx. 23 inches across from pit to pit (because of the shoulder pad cut of the fabric), while the body measures approx. The length of the jersey is a long 35 inches from shoulder to tail. Gamers from this classic era rarely surface, and this beauty would display nicely on either side. It would be a welcome addition to any Michigan State collection! The item “Circa 1980-81 Michigan State Spartans Game Worn Issued Jersey, QB Rick Kolb” is in sale since Sunday, October 22, 2017.
