1986 NEW YORK METS TEAM ISSUED / POSSIBLY GAME USED WHITE HOME PINSTRIPE JERSEY ISSUED TO THEN ROOKIE METS FIRST-BASEMAN DAVE MAGADAN # 29 A VERY RARE GENUINE 1986 METS GAMER AN OUTSTANDING METS COLLECTIBLE JERSEY! The jersey is attributed to “rookie” first baseman DAVE MAGADAN, whose first ever professional ball games were played during that year. Magadan, now one of the game’s premier hitting coaches, would go on to have a stellar professional baseball career. It is a white v-neck pull-over jersey with a blue v-neck, blue pinstripes, and classic orange, blue and orange racing stripes down each side of the jersey. It’s made of 100% heavy-weight solid polyester material. In the center of the jersey in 2-color blue and orange twill material is the Mets script team logo; beneath it in the same colors is Dave’s # 29. All front lettering and numbering is original with no team alterations. The left sleeve features an embroidered 1986 Mets “25th Anniversary” logo patch — which celebrated the 25th season of the franchise. This patch is also 100% original and has been authenticated as the second version of the patch to be placed on 1986 gamers. The lower front tail of the jersey features the Goodman & Sons logo tag that contains the Goodman logo, the wash instructions, and the size of the jersey (44). Dave Magadan also autographed the front of the jersey in blue sharpie. The back features a large #29 sewn directly in the center in blue and orange and twill. Above the player number is the name MAGADAN sewn in the same 2 colors directly onto a nameplate that is affixed to the jersey. While the numbers are 100% original, the nameplate is professionally restored in the exact same font and size that the team wore on field. It’s truly a great job. While the restoration is 100% accurate, you can make out some light stitch holes where the original nameplate was originally placed — just a hair above the new one. I have included a photo demonstrating just this. I don’t know why the nameplate was originally removed from this jersey (perhaps because it was worn by a player that was up and down between the minors and majors), but it is not the first jersey from 1986 I have seen with a removed nameplate — the others I have come across also met the same criteria of a player that split time between AAA Tidewater and the Mets. The jersey displays use as it certainly has some wear on the tagging and some stretching out of the side stripes. Given Magadan’s short tenure with the 1986 team, it is more than possible that he played in this jersey. They don’t come along very often!!
